What does “Fixed-Benefit” mean?
The Choice Plan is a fixed benefit program. This means for each medical procedure, a certain amount of coverage is provided. This is called a schedule of benefits. The schedule of benefits for Choice Plan includes items for emergency, in-patient, out-patient, and doctors’ visits.
What does “Pre-Existing” mean?
The Choice Plan covers the ACUTE ONSET of pre-existing conditions. This means only in an emergency situation will any benefits be given. Medical attention should be sought within 12 hours of exhibiting symptoms.
Does Choice Plan Cover All Age Groups?
Yes. Choice Plan is the only visitors health insurance which offers coverage for all age groups, up to age 89.
Can I visit a Doctor or Urgent Care Center?
Yes, Choice Plan is meant for anyone seeking coverage for medical treatment regarding a fever, stomach ache, etc. Moreover, the Choice Plan works great in case of an accident such as a fall or leg-injury. Choice Plan also works with the First Health PPO Network. This network affords you discounted medical services. Simply visit the First Health International website to locate a provider near you.
Is there a Co-Pay Associated with the Choice Plan?
There’s no co-pay in visitors insurance. Instead, visitors insurance uses deductibles. A deductible is the amount of money you need to pay before the coverage kicks in. Typically, a lower deductible (low out-of-pocket cost) results in a higher premium, and vice versa.
Does the Choice Plan cover travel?
Yes, all of our plans cover the journey from the visitor’s home country to the United States. Whether they are transiting through Dubai, London, or Hong Kong the coverage will work. We suggest having coverage start 1 day earlier than the visitor’s departure date in order to ensure coverage while travelling.
What is the claims process for Choice Plan?
If a visitor gets sick, make sure they visit a doctor or hospital within the First Health Provider Network. Simply tell the front desk you have insurance with First Health. Then, they will do all the medical billing on the back end, meaning cashless claims for you. Your up-front cost will be limited to the amount of the deductible.
Can I purchase this plan after my visitors arrive in the US?
Yes, however we advise against it. If one purchases the insurance after visitors arrive in the US, they must fill out a form attesting to health of their visitor. This form is then submitted to the underwriter to review, which takes 4-5 business days. In the meantime, if your visitor has a accident, they are covered. But if they experience a sickness, they will not be covered.
Does the Choice Plan include Dental or Vision?
Unfortunately, no visitors insurance cover dental or vision in their policies. However, we do offer dental and vision discount cards which can save you up to 60% on dental & vision services.
Who should buy the Choice Plan?
We advise visitors take the Choice Plan if they meet the following criteria:
- They are above 50 years of age
- They have mild pre-existing conditions
- You are more likely to experience emergency situations with pre-existing conditions
- You are willing to pay a lower premium for higher out-of-pocket expenses later
